They learn more by discovery than by being told,” says Keels. “TQ is designed to lead teenagers into the discovery of biblical truths. By finding their own answers to study questions and writing personal thoughts in the margins, teenagers will take ownership in the Bible and in Christianity.
The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
Keller, Timothy

“The End of Faith. The God Delusion. God Is Not Great. Letter to a Christian Nation,” Bestseller lists are filled with doubters. But what happens when you actually doubt your doubts?

Although a vocal minority continues to attack the Christian faith, for most Americans, faith is a large part of their lives: 86 percent of Americans refer to themselves as religious, and 75 percent of all Americans consider themselves Christians. So how should they respond to these passionate, learned, and persuasive books that promote science and secularism over religion and faith? For years, Tim Keller has compiled a list of the most frequently voiced doubts skeptics bring to his Manhattan church. And in “The Reason for God,” he single-handedly dismantles each of them. Written with atheists, agnostics, and skeptics in mind, Keller also provides an intelligent platform on which true believers can stand their ground when bombarded by the backlash.” The Reason for God” challenges such ideology at its core and points to the true path and purpose of Christianity.

Why is there suffering in the world? How could a loving God send people to Hell? Why isnt Christianity more inclusive? Shouldnt the Christian God be a god of love? How can one religion be right and the rest wrong? Why have so many wars been fought in the name of God? These are just a few of the questions even ardent believers wrestle with today. In this book, Tim Keller uses literature, philosophy, real-life conversations and reasoning, and even pop culture to explain how faith in a Christian God is a soundly rational belief, held by thoughtful people of intellectual integrity with a deep compassion for those who truly want to know the truth.

Epicenter: Why the Current Rumblings in the Middle East Will Change Your Future
Rosenberg, Joel C.

With over one million novels in print, New York Times best-selling author Joel C. Rosenberg has been called “eerily prophetic” and a “modern Nostradamus” for his uncanny ability to write political thrillers that come true.
In his first nonfiction book, this evangelical Christian from an Orthodox Jewish heritage takes readers on an unforgettable journey through prophecy and current events into the future of Iraq after Saddam, Russia after Communism, Israel after Arafat, and Christianity after radical Islam. You won’t want to miss Joel’s exclusive interviews with Israeli, Palestinian, and Russian leaders, and previously classified CIA and White House documents.

Similar to the approach Joel takes in his novels, his desire is to draw readers into stories, anecdotes, and predictions in a way that builds confidence that allows Joel to share his faith in Jesus Christ and the reliability of Scripture as a guide to understanding the past and the future.

Drawing on his experience in Washington, his own exclusive interviews with world leaders, and his astute political acumen, Joel makes sense of the events surrounding the Middle East. He connects information in a way that will make you understand and really care about the world’s most important events and how they impact your life–from gas prices to your bank account.

Have you ever wondered . . .
What is Heaven really going to be like?
What will we look like?
What will we do every day?
Won’t Heaven get boring after a while?

We all have questions about what Heaven will be like, and after twenty-five years of extensive research, Dr. Randy Alcorn has the answers.

In the most comprehensive and definitive book on Heaven to date, Randy invites you to picture Heaven the way Scripture describes it—a bright, vibrant, and physical New Earth, free from sin, suffering, and death, and brimming with Christ’s presence, wondrous natural beauty, and the richness of human culture as God intended it.

God has put eternity in our hearts. Now, Randy Alcorn brings eternity to light in a way that will surprise you, spark your imagination, and change how you live today.

If you’ve always thought of Heaven as a realm of disembodied spirits, clouds, and eternal harp strumming, you’re in for a wonderful surprise.

This is a book about real people with real bodies enjoying close relationships with God and each other, eating, drinking, working, playing, traveling, worshiping, and discovering on a New Earth. Earth as God created it. Earth as he intended it to be.

And the next time you hear someone say, “We can’t begin to imagine what Heaven will be like,” you will be able to tell them, “I can.”

They called it The Rebelution and described it as“a teenage rebellion against the low expectations of an ungodly culture.” They had a message for their generation, but the blog was intended to be seminal–a place to develop thoughts and prepare them for public view. But the ideas wouldn’t wait.

Within days Alex and Brett were involved in lively discussion with passionate readers who were intrigued by the concept of “rebelling against rebellion” and wanted to know more. Each new post reflected a more nuanced and persuasive message. 800 posts and 7.2 million hits later, The Rebelution is more than a blog; it’s a growing youth movement that has already impacted tens-of-thousands of teens, parents, and youth workers around the globe. Alex and Brett’s ministry has given birth to an online community, complete with discussion forums and resource section, as well as a national conference tour. Even with this high level of success, the message of The Rebelution has not been presented in its purest and most compelling form–until now. Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations will change that.

Written by teens for teens, Do Hard Things is the hand book for “rebelutionaries”–teens who are rebelling against pervasive low expectations and reaching for their God-given potential, starting now. The book delivers a creative and empowering cry from the heart of an already-happening teen revolution. Filled with examples from history, the Bible, the authors’ personal experiences, contemporary youth culture, and thousands of teens who are choosing a better way, Do Hard Things will reveal…

the crippling myth of adolescence and how to break free from its constraints

how much young people limit their own potential and how great that potential can be>

how to use the teen years as the training ground and launching pad for the rest of life

how to rise above complacency and low expectations by stepping outside comfort zones and embracing personal growth

the power of new life in Christ to provide the starting point for genuine life change and meaningful social engagement

a real-life portrait of what is possible for teens when character, competence, and collaboration join forces

Do Hard Things has the potential to become a formative reading experience for many in this generation–a landmark event that will shape how we think about adolescence; a book that will be read, promoted, cited, and argued about by parents, ministers and teachers for years to come.

God doesn’t call every Christian to go off to seminary, but there are certain matters of doctrine—that is, the church’s teaching—that every Christian simply must know.

Theology is important because what we believe affects how we live. If you’re a relatively new believer in Jesus, or if you’re a more mature Christian looking for a quick brushup on basics of the faith, Christian Beliefs is for you. This readable guide to twenty basic Christian beliefs is a condensation of Wayne Grudem’s award-winning book on systematic theology, prized by pastors and teachers everywhere.

He and his son, Eliot, have boiled down the essentials of Christian theology for the average layperson and made them both clear to understand and applicable to life. You will learn about the Bible, the characteristics of God, how God created humans in his own image, what God has done for us in Christ, the purpose of the church, and much more.

Each chapter includes questions for personal review or group discussion. These truly are twenty basic beliefs that every Christian should know. Wayne Grudem is a master teacher with the ability to explain profound truths in simple language. He is a man of deep conviction and theological passion—and those who read this book will be both educated and encouraged in the faith.

The Younger Evangelicals: Facing the Challenges of the New World

Webber, Robert E.
From Publishers Weekly – Over a quarter of a century ago, Richard Quebedeaux chronicled the history and prospects of evangelicalism in his sociology of religion study, The Young Evangelicals. Webber, who teaches at Northern Seminary in Wheaton, Ill., offers an insider’s perspective on the present state and future of evangelicalism. He contends that the “younger evangelicals” include anyone “who deals thoughtfully with the shift from 20th- to 21st-century culture. He or she is committed to construct a biblically rooted, historically informed and culturally aware new evangelical witness in the 21st century.” In this splendid overview of the shifts in the evangelical landscape, Webber examines the differences in theological thinking, worship styles and communication styles; attitudes toward history, art and evangelism; and ecclesiology between “traditional” evangelicals (1950-1975), “pragmatic” evangelicals (1975-2000) and younger evangelicals (2000-). For example, where the traditional evangelicals argued theologically that Christianity is a rational worldview and pragmatic evangelicals contended theologically that Christianity is a therapy that answers needs, the younger evangelicals’ theological program involves a return to ancient Christian and Reformation teachings that Christianity is a community of faith. These younger evangelicals, he argues, are highly visual believers, possessing great facility with technology. They are committed to the plight of the poor, multicultural communities of faith and intergenerational ministry, and they recognize that the road to the future runs through the past. Webber’s helpful and thorough guidebook offers a generous assessment of the history of evangelicalism as well as a judicious but enthusiastic evaluation of its prospects in the 21st century.

Some two thousand years after he walked the earth, Jesus Christ is still a hot topic. And for all the ridiculous, twisted, Da Vinci Code-esque conspiracy theories and lies about Jesus that have permeated popular culture and even the academy over the years, the truth about his character, nature, and work has not changed. So what exactly is the truth about Jesus Christ? That’s the question the authors of Vintage Jesus seek to answer by breaking it down into a number of sub-questions about Jesus, including Is Jesus the only God? Why did Jesus come to earth? Did Jesus rise from death? Why should we worship Jesus? and others. Nonbelievers and new Christians looking to sit down and delve into the topic of Jesus, asking the toughest, most confounding questions they can think of, will find solid, biblical answers presented in a relevant, accessible way.

Every person is constantly seeking redemption (or at least the feeling of it) in his or her life, believing countless gospels that promise to fix the brokenness. Typically their pursuits include the desire for fulfilling relationships, successful careers, satisfying religious systems, status, and escape.

Miller reveals how the inability to find redemption leads to chaotic relationships, self-hatred, the accumulation of meaningless material possessions, and a lack of inner peace. Readers will learn to identify in themselves and within others the universal desire for redemption. They will discover that the gospel of Jesus is the only way to find meaning in life and true redemption.

Mature believers as well as seekers and new Christians will find themselves identifying with the narrative journey unfolded in the book, which is simply the pursuit of redemption.

Lord, Save Us from Your Followers: Why Is the Gospel of Love Dividing America?

Why is the Gospel of Love dividing America? Fed up with the angry, strident language filling the airwaves that has come to represent the Christian faith, author, director, and follower Dan Merchant set out to explore the collision of faith and culture in America. What is all this fighting really about? The book and upcoming documentary represent a two-year effort to “join the battlefield in hopes of getting a conversation started.” The result is a book full of offbeat observations, fun anecdotes, comedic bits and in-depth interviews. From Dan’s hilarious bumper-sticker interviews with folks on the street to his unique “Confession Booth” event inspired by his meeting with Tony, the Beat Poet, from Blue Like Jazz, he delves into all the hot button issues with candor, humor and balance.

Includes exclusive interviews with Al Franken, Rick Santorum, Tony Campolo, conservative radio host Michael Reagan, USA Today columnist Tom Krattenmaker, Pastor Rick Warren, and even Sister Mary Timothy of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as well as many more.

TransParenting is a thought-provoking call for mothers and fathers to remain exceptionally involved in their children’s lives even as they approach a more independent state of adolescence. Parents are indeed mentors who know and love their children better than anyone else and should never take lightly the development of each child’s spirituality, friendships, and more.

As a passionate and dedicated advocate for the poor, Smith addresses the major problems and important issues facing this growing population. From the ravages of mental illness and addiction to struggles for affordable housing and quality health care, Smith brings attention to problems that many choose to ignore.

Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense
Wright, N. T.

Why is justice fair? Why are so many people pursuing spirituality? Why do we crave relationship? And why is beauty so beautiful?
N. T. Wright argues that each of these questions takes us into the mystery of who God is and what he wants from us. For two thousand years Christianity has claimed to answer these mysteries, and this renowned biblical scholar and Anglican bishop shows that it still does today.

Like C. S. Lewis did in his classic Mere Christianity, Wright makes the case for Christian faith from the ground up, assuming that the reader is starting from ground zero with no predisposition to and perhaps even some negativity toward religion in general and Christianity in particular. His goal is to describe Christianity in as simple and accessible, yet hopefully attractive and exciting, a way as possible, both to say to outsides “You might want to look at this further,” and to say to insiders “You may not have quite understood this bit clearly yet.”

What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity and Why It Matters. Christianity has an image problem.
Christians are supposed to represent Christ to the world. But according to the latest report card, something has gone terribly wrong. Using descriptions like “hypocritical,” “insensitive,” and “judgmental,” young Americans share an impression of Christians that’s nothing short of . . . unChristian.

Groundbreaking research into the perceptions of sixteen- to twenty-nine-year-olds reveals that Christians have taken several giant steps backward in one of their most important assignments. The surprising details of the study, commissioned by Fermi Project and conducted by The Barna Group, are presented with uncompromising honesty in unChristian.

Find out why these negative perceptions exist, learn how to reverse them in a Christlike manner, and discover practical examples of how Christians can positively contribute to culture.

unChristian also includes forward-looking insights from respected Christian leaders, adding their assessment of the problems and their thoughts about how Christians should respond.

The Twilight of Atheism: The Rise and Fall of Disbelief in the Modern World
McGrath, Alister E.

Review from “A Customer” on Amazon…
As McGrath duly notes in the introduction to ‘The Twilight of Atheism’: “This book will not settle anything; but at least it can further discussion of one of the greatest issues of our time.” Having studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Molecular Biophysics, before gaining first class honours in Theology at Oxford University, Alister McGrath is well positioned to provide a broad insight into any debate concerning religious belief. A one time Atheist turned Christian, McGrath has first hand experience of life on both sides of the fence.
Rest assured this book is not aimed at converting ‘non-believers’ but at dispelling the controversial notion that “religion is the world’s greatest evil.” McGrath achieves this by tracing the history of atheism and highlighting the flaws, not of atheism as a whole, but of the secularist movements that have tried to impose atheism. Contrary to the beliefs of some, by no means does McGrath imply that the fall of the Berlin wall was a result of atheism, although he does draw attention to the failures of oppressive systems that have enforced their doctrine upon the unwilling. McGrath explains that, like religious movements, secular-atheist movements have been marred by a history of atrocities. As such atheism can be considered no less evil than monotheism.

Clearly ‘The Twilight of Atheism’ is written from a Christian perspective, but McGrath does not attempt to con the reader into thinking otherwise. McGrath is sympathetic to atheists who “just ask to be left alone, getting on with their lives peacefully and Godlessly”. He does however take exception to the “militant, awkward, and angrier” forms of atheism. Just as religion has oppressive factions, so does atheism. Both are unacceptable.

“The Twilight of Atheism” is undoubtedly more accessible to the Christian reader. However, given Alister McGrath’s impressive, diverse, credentials, this book is a must for any peron interested in religious debate.

P.S. It is a supposition to believe that humans are born atheist. There is absolutely no proof to validate such a claim. Surely, if anything, a person is born agnostic.

This classic of Christian devotional literature has brought understanding and comfort to millions for centuries. Both Protestants and Catholics–as well as mystics and historians of religious thought–have studied these meditations on the life and teachings of Jesus, finding in them a path to prayer and spiritual guidance. Written in a candid and conversational style, “The Imitation of Christ discusses liberation from worldly inclinations, recollection as a preparation for prayer, the consolations of prayer, and the place of eucharistic communion in a devout life. With its simple, readable text, this translation will appeal to new readers as well as to those already familiar with this religious classic.
